Book an Appointment

• For students who have never attended a counselling session at The Counselling Centre before, please request an appointment by clicking the New Clients button.

• For students who have attended one or more counselling sessions at The Counselling Centre before, at any point in time, please request an appointment by clicking the Returning Clients button.

Types of Appointments:

• Intake – 30-50 minute intake sessions (for students who have not previously accessed the service). Intake appointments are an opportunity to discuss concerns and how The Counselling Centre may be of assistance.
• Ongoing Counselling – 50 minute sessions (for students who have previously accessed the service).

Appointments are available in person or virtually (video or telephone). If you would like to change your in-person appointment to a virtual delivery due to weather, sickness etc. please let us know in advance, as our video platform requires account set up prior to first time use. It is possible we may request to change an in-person appointment to virtual delivery for similar reasons but you would be given as much notice as possible.

Cancellation Policy:
If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, we ask that you give us a minimum of 1 business day's notice. However, we appreciate as much advance notice of cancellations as possible.

In the event of two cancelled, rescheduled or missed appointments in a row, we ask that you first connect with The Counselling Centre Manager via counselling@smu.ca before scheduling any further appointments. This provides an opportunity to discuss any barriers you’re experiencing and how we can assist in the process.

Late Policy:
We allow a grace period of 15 minutes. If you are more than 15 minutes late for your appointment you will be asked to reschedule so as not to impact other appointments.
