Upcoming Events

We are calling for doctoral and postdoctoral applicants to the 2nd multidisciplinary International
PhD Academy on Innovation, Development & Policy, co-organized by The North America and Caribbean Chapter of GLOBELICS (NACLICS, www.naclics.org), the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s University, HEC Montréal, Stony Brook University, and the Centre for Democracy and Technology.
The PhD Academy addresses topics on innovation, development, and policy from a multidisciplinary perspective and is relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals. 

 

The event will be held in Saint Mary’s University, Canada, from June 16-23, 2024, and will build on the following areas:

  • Topics related to areas under the Sustainable Development Goals, innovation, and development (e.g., innovating for climate change, for energy, innovating for gender equity and for diversity, and poverty eradication through innovative means).
  • Systems of innovation and contributions to technological capability building for innovation, including social, inclusive, sustainable, and responsible innovation.
  • Foreign direct investment, multinational enterprises, innovation, and development.
  • Science, technology, and innovation policy.

 

The Academy will bring together leading practitioners and academics, and they will lead the sessions across multiple practical and theoretical areas. The Academy will include the following activities:

  • Lectures and mentoring from leading practitioners and scholars.
  • Panels featuring experts in policymaking, academia, and industry.
  • Expert faculty feedback on one working paper for each participant.
  • Professional development sessions.
  • Field trips
  • An interdisciplinary group research project.

 

Advanced Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers within three years of the award of their PhDs are eligible. Applications should include:

  1. a letter of interest that clearly indicates the topic of research, and interest to participate in the Academy.
  2. a curriculum vitae.
  • a nomination letter from an academic reference.
  1. an extended abstract or full working paper.

The Academy will be held at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada, beginning at 13:00 on Sunday June 16th, 2024, and ending at 16:00 on Saturday, June 23rd, 2023. Accepted students are expected to participate during all the activities. We are seeking funding to cover part of the cost for accommodation and travel.
