Services & Support
Doctoral Fellowships
A limited number of fellowships are available to students who are not in full-time paid employment. Fellowships are in the amount of $15,000 per annum and are available for a three-year period. Tuition fees are deducted from the fellowship, with the net proceeds to the student paid out over three academic terms.
Request for a fellowship should be made at the time of application.
Office Space
Students in the PhD Program have access to shared office space in the Sobey building. Offices are typically equipped with three to four workstations with computers. Office space is located in proximity to most faculty advisors and administration offices.
Conference Allowance
In an effort to encourage active participation in academic conferences, PhD students can apply annually for funding to defray conference registration fees and travel expenses. Application is made to the Director of the PhD Program and approval is based on the presentation of a scholarly paper.
Teaching Opportunities
Students in the doctoral program are encouraged to gain teaching experience, and as such are offered part-time teaching opportunities. Part-time teaching appointments are limited to two courses per term and compensation is determined by the collective agreement of the part-time instructors' union. Students who do not have previous teaching experience will have opportunities to acquire skills and competencies in university pedagogy prior to being placed in a classroom. Anyone interested in teaching should contact the PhD Director, Natalia Kochetova, immediately upon confirmation of acceptance.
