The MFin program typically begins its admission cycle in September and ends in April or June depending on where you are applying from. Applicants who are Canadian or have Permanent Residence status may follow the process below. International applicants may need for follow another procedure.

International application process

As an international applicant, you should ensure you give yourself the appropriate amount of time to obtain the necessary permits or VISAs to study in Canada. Minimum admission requirements

4-year university degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, accounting, finance, engineering, computer science, economics or other quantitative discipline with an overall minimum average of B

An average score across all quantitative courses of:

  • 75% for applicants with engineering, physics, computer science and mathematics degrees
  • 80% for applicants with business degrees
  • 85% for applicants with economics and international trade degrees


For applicants whose first language is not English or who did not graduate from an English medium university, a minimum English proficiency score of:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)  minimum 550 on paper-based, minimum iBT 80, with no band below 20
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum 6.5 overall score with no band below 6
  • CanTEST – minimum 4.5 with no individual score below 4.0
  • Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) – minimum 60 with no individual band below 50
  • University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) with grade of A, B or C
  • Pearson PTE score of 58
  • English for Academic Purposes Level 6 administered by the TESL Centre at Saint Mary’s University
  • Additional Documents Required:

    1. Supplemental Form- MFin Supplemental Form
    2. A satisfactory score on the GMAT will be considered an asset
    3. An up-to-date C.V./resume
    4. Official transcripts for all universities and colleges attended.
    5. Two (2) recommendations
