Res Top 5

Res Top 5 is a service that gives residence students quick and easy access to the information they need to know about residence, Saint Mary’s, the Halifax community and more. It comes in an email format up to 3 times a week. Within the email subscribers will find 5 small “articles” with links to further information, postings for upcoming RSVP (Residence Student Volunteer Program) opportunities and announcements. It’s easy to view on your smartphone, subscribe today! 

Subscription Tips

If you would like to subscribe send an email to listserv@smu-listserv.smu.ca leave the subject line blank and in the body of the email copy and paste the line below:

Subscribe res-top5-l YourFirstName YourLastName

Ex. Subscribe res-top5-l John Smith

  • Make sure the email is going to  listserv@smu-listserv.smu.ca
  • Make sure the subject line is blank (your email may say your subject line is empty – click send anyway)
  • Make sure the only text in the email is: Subscribe res-top5-l YourFirstName YourLastName       (this means no signatures etc.) 
  • You should receive a confirmation email saying “Subscribe res-top5-l YourFirstName YourLastName The name associated with your email@address.com subscription has been changed to "YourFirstName YourLastName.” once you have submitted your subscription request
  • Check your junk mail for any confirmations or instructions for the Listserve
  • If you are still having trouble please email Residence.Programming@smu.ca with subject line: Subcribe me to Res Top 5 with your email address, First Name and Last Name 

Unsubscribe Troubleshooting

If you would like to unsubscribe please send an email to: listserv@smu-listserv.smu.ca leave the subject line blank and in the body of the email copy and paste: Unsubscribe Res-Top5-L

Res Top 5 Submission Request Guidelines & Instructions

*Please note Housing & Residence Life will do our best to fit in your article by or before the date you have requested. The earlier you submit your request the more likely it will be entered by the date requested. If we cannot accommodate your article we may change it to an announcement – in this is case we will email you to approve the new text. Please adhere to the guidelines below to ensure that your article is published on time. We also reserve the right to alter the text to fit the Res Top 5 format.

Instructions for Submitting:

1)      Email to Residence.Programming@smu.ca

2)      Subject line: Res Top 5 Request for Submission: Date you would like it posted by (ex. Res Top 5 Request for Submission: January 30th 2013)

3)      Copy and paste text below into the email for appropriate submission article or announcement

 Example of an Article Submission:

Date January 30th 2013 (date you would like it posted by)

Title – Saint Mary’s Most Exciting Event Ever!

Article body – Next week on January 4th Saint Mary’s will be having its Most Exciting Event Ever! Students should attend this event is they are interested in building their resume or meeting new people. Exciting guests will include the Mayor, Olympic champion Shaun White and local entrepreneur John Smith.

Detailed Guidelines for Submitting:

Article:

Title – One Sentence, short sweet and catchy (Maximum 6 word approximately)

Article body – 3-4 sentences (5 maximum) that lets students know the exciting stuff, or important/need to know information (will be hyperlinking to further information – goal of writing will be to get students to click the links to learn more)

Hyperlinks – Maximum 3 links can be to an email address or webpage. Please provide links or email addresses and text for hyperlink

Text – One sentence of text with essential information can be an upcoming data or recognition of someone or something.
