Class of 2017: Trade Mission to Vietnam
The EMBA International Business Trip is one of the highlights of the program. Last month, the Class of 2017 travelled to Vietnam for the Sobey Executive MBA Trade Mission.
Now in partnership with Atlantic Canada Opportunity Agency (ACOA); the students worked in teams of two to represent an Atlantic Canadian company with the potential to build an export business.
The Class of 2017 fanned out across Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to meet with vetted individuals in each market. The teams conducted a total of 55 scheduled meetings while on the ground.
Support for the trip included introductions and presentations from Vietrade (a Vietnam government organizational responsible for Trade and Investment) as well as company visits and tours to listen to senior business leaders from DHL, BlueScope Construction, Nike and Piet Beverage Company.
While the traction for the Atlantic Canadian companies may take longer to materialize, the students are
are back in Canada preparing trip reports and follow-up visits with their companies to debrief on the opportunities discovered.
Most importantly, the students will bring the transformative learning they have experienced back to their own employers in the form of innovative ideas, a new perspective and an expanded network of global contacts.
The Class of 2018 will engage in another aspect of international development, also in conjunction with ACOA, by participating in the Tavola Trade Fair being held in Kortrijk, Belgium next March.
