Alexander Bourque
Halifax, Nova Scotia
October 2020
Alexander Bourque comes to the MBA program at the Sobey School of Business from a somewhat unusual background: chemistry. After graduation, he plans to combine his experience as a research scientist with his freshly honed leadership and business skills to win a leadership role in a multinational corporation. “The objective is to lead a team of scientific researchers in the field of chemical research and development, to provide valuable real-world experience and knowledge to my team members, and to help bridge the gap between technical expertise and business/operations expertise,” he explains.
The son of a Saint Mary’s alumnus, Alexander looks forward to joining the ranks of Sobey scholars. “I would like to offer my deepest gratitude to the Sobey Family, The Sobey Foundation, and Sobeys Inc. for supporting the business school at SMU for nearly 30 years, for providing the endowment for the Sobey MBA Scholarships, and for creating opportunities for people… in the Maritime provinces, he says. “Both my mom and sister worked for Sobeys when I was younger.” In addition to the Impact Fund and Venture Grade Student Investment Fund, he plans to join the Chemistry Society and maybe an intramural sports team or two.
