General Award Applications
Most awards for students with a declared disability are included under the umbrella of general award applications. To be considered, students must:
- Complete the general Saint Mary's University application
- Admissions Awards Application (for first-year students)
- Undergraduate Awards Program Application (for returning students).
- Include all relevant identifiers and unique qualities (e.g., student with a declared disability, Black student, International Student, etc.) in the application, enabling your one application to consider you for all relevant awards.
- At the time of application, you must be a registered student with the Fred Smithers Centre for Student Accessibility.
- Submit the application form by the required deadline. Please visit the Financial Aid and Awards page for current dates.
Students who have been accepted to attend Saint Mary’s University for their first year of study can apply for Admissions Awards. On the application, there will be an opportunity to self-identify as a student with a declared disability.
To be considered for awards with a disability criterion, applicants must be currently registered with the Fred Smithers Centre for Student Accessibility and must self-declare as a student with a disability on the application form.
- The application for the Admissions Awards opens early in the Winter Term. Please visit the Financial Aid and Awards page for current dates.
- Must be a new student entering an undergraduate degree at Saint Mary’s University directly from high school.
- Current examples of awards designated specifically for students with a declared disability may include:

- This is a one-time application for eligible first-year students.
The above listed awards are not available for individual application and are not listed individually online. To be considered for these scholarships, students must apply through the Admissions Awards Program. Awards and values are subject to change.
Returning undergraduate students can apply annually for the Undergraduate Awards Program (UAP). One application considers students for over 250 awards, including those based on academic achievement, financial need, extracurriculars, personal identity, and more.
To be considered for awards with a disability criterion, applicants must be currently registered with the Fred Smithers Centre for Student Accessibility and must self-declare as a student with a disability on the application form.
- The application for the Undergraduate Awards Program opens annually each Spring. Please visit the Financial Aid and Awards page for current dates.
- There are approximately 13 awards under the UAP, for a cumulative total of more than $18,000, that are designated specifically for students with a declared disability.
- Eligible students can apply to the UAP annually during their undergraduate degree at SMU.
To be considered for these scholarships, students must apply through the Undergraduate Awards Program.
