Please note that our Active Living Registration policies have changed:

  • The Member Early Bird rate is available to only SMUfit members, up to January 4, 2020. To qualify for this rate, membership must cover the entire length of the paid program.
  • There are no refunds or credits for a cancelled class; Management will make every attempt to provide a replacement class.
  • There are no refunds or credits for missed classes. Make-up classes, space permitting, must be attended within the same session.
  • Registration is available by phone 902.420.5555 with Credit Card or in person at front desk.
  • Full registration fee is required at time of registration, regardless of registration date; SMUfit cannot prorate or discount fees for late registration.
  • Single class rate of $14+hst (member) or $18+hst (non-member) is available the day of the class, space permitting.

Fitness in Chinese – classes taught in Chinese language 团体健身课程)

Lead by Personal Trainer, Jason Zhang, this Sunday group Personal Training class is taught in Chinese language.  Including all elements of fitness, the class builds strength through functional movements using your own bodyweight, cardiovascular training, as well as flexibility. Group PT -Small Group Personal Training with Sonja

This boot camp style class includes, building cardiovascular endurance, total body strength & flexibility. Shotokan Karate

The Saint Mary’s University Shotokan Karate Club offers the opportunity for members to learn the art of Shotokan karate in an enjoyable, inclusive class atmosphere. The SMU dojo has a strong sense of community where self-respect and respect for others is fostered while members work towards their goals of greater confidence, fitness, coordination, self-defence, or to pursue karate for competitive aims. New beginner members will learn the basic fundamentals of traditional karate including kata (forms), kumite (sparring) and kihon (basic techniques).  Head instructor Shannon Doane started training in Shotokan karate in 1996 and currently holds a 5th degree black belt. Sensei Doane is also a member of the coaching team with Karate Nova Scotia and is enrolled in the National Coaches Certification Program (NCCP) with the Coaching Association of Canada. Core Strength

This class is a full body workout with an emphasis on core exercises. A different piece of equipment will be used each week for variety and optimum muscle building.

Fascial Fitness/Movement

Fascia is a body wide network of connective tissue responsible for postural integrity and efficient movement. A restriction in any part of this network affects movement throughout the entire body. Work towards releasing those restrictions through a series of movements tailored to strengthen the Fascial system by breaking up adhesions, rehydrating the tissue and restoring a youthful bounce and glow! Although similar, the Friday class will involve more movement and therefore called, “Fascial Movement”. Instructor, Ocean, continues to learn new routines and techniques making each class different.  Min 6/Max 13

NEW - Bike’nBarre

 

Bike n' Barre uses cardio and strength to create the perfect combination workout. Start off class with half an hour of heart-pumping spin followed by half an hour of strengthening at the ballet barre. Barre is a unique class that blends traditional ballet moves with Pilates and yoga moves to tone and strengthen muscles. Seniors Group Fitness Program

Specifically designed for post cardiac patients or for seniors who are interested in preventative heart health (i.e.: high blood pressure, overweight, elevated cholesterol).  All fitness levels welcome.
