Mi’kmaq History Month
In 1993, Premier John Savage and Mi’kmaw Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy declared October as the official month to recognize and celebrate Mi’kmaq culture and heritage. Mi’kmaq History Month is celebrating its 21st year anniversary in 2014 and we invite everyone to join us in the celebration of our culture and heritage.
Each October, community activities, events, sharing and showcasing the Mi’kmaw history takes place across Nova Scotia. Everyone is encouraged and welcome to participate in Mi’kmaw History Month events. Our Mi’kmaq History Month committee strives to ensure that Nova Scotians are being welcomed and educated on our wonderful culture!
Saint Mary’s Indigenous Students are striving to promote awareness of Indigenous Culture through a variety of on campus events – Our Tabacco Ties event is the most popular! Make sure to keep updated with your Saint Mary’s Aboriginal Society
