Students & HireSMU

Looking for an on-campus job, summer, part-time, or full-time job, or how about an internship or co-op opportunity? HireSMU is your online student recruitment management system that allows you to post your resume and access local, regional, national and international opportunities for employment as well as internships and co-op positions.


How to Navigate HireSMU:

Post your resume, review jobs and connect with employers locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. HireSMU also provides information on Career Services events happening on and off campus.

I am already a student on HireSMU:

  • Students who already have an Account created; log on to HireSMU using your A number and the password you created: HireSMU Login
  • Visit https://sobey-smu-csm.symplicity.com/ and click the Student/Alumni
    • To register for a new account, click “sign-up”, then complete the Student Registration form that appears.
    • (All * are required fields.)
  • Click An email will be sent to you shortly from HireSMU@smu.ca, asking you to verify your email address.
  • You will then receive a second email saying that we have received your registration and your account will be approved within one working day. HireSMU will review your status; once accepted you will receive a link to create a password.
  • Enter your username and password; you are now logged on to the HireSMU home page where you can view the Notifications, Announcements, and Feedback
  • Click on the Profile tab at the top of the menu on your left side, to edit your Profile until it is 100% complete. Click Save or Save Changes and continue until your profile is complete.

To create your new student account:

Upload your documents: i.e. Resume, Cover Letter…

  • Click on the “DOCUMENT” tab on the left of the screen and then click on “APPROVED” tab and then “ADD NEW”. Complete the fields * and upload/name your resume from your preferred “saved” Go back and do the same for your cover letter and/or other documents. Upload as many cover letters and relevant documents as you wish.
  • Click the Career Resources tab; then click Library to locate relevant information on The Student Employment Centre, Job Searching, Co-operative Education program, Career Services and more. Resource material will be updated as necessary.

How to browse jobs on HireSMU:

  • Click the “Jobs” tab on the left of the screen and then click on the HireSMU Jobs Use the “Advanced Search” tab to search for positions that meet your requirements. (i.e. Position Type (on-campus, Part time, Full time, Summer, New Grads and more), by Province or Industry. NOTE: You will not see the “APPLY” button on the upper right corner unless you have at least one resume uploaded to your document folder.
  • Clicking on the job title will provide you with the job description and details on how you should apply. (Please upload a resume and other relevant documents in order to see the “APPLY” button).

 How to find events on HireSMU: 

  • To search for Campus Recruitment, Information Sessions, Display/Marketing booths, Job Fairs, workshops, general events and more; click on the EVENTS Click on the event you are interested in viewing. Note: the RSVP button will appear if students are required to register. Once registered, you will receive a reminder notice 24 hours prior to the event’s start time.
