What is Career Counselling?
Career Counselling is a confidential, in-depth service tailored to the client addressing career and education concerns. Career Counsellors are graduate-trained professionals who are skilled and experienced in helping students work through questions, obstacles and, can help you make decisions related to your career plan. This free service is offered to students and Alumni (for three years post-graduation).
Career Counselling can help you determine your strengths, abilities, personality, and values, and help you make decisions related to your career and life goals, as well as support you in seeing those goals achieved.
What do Career Counsellors do?
- Take the time to get to know you through a series of conversations, all of which take place in a confidential one-on-one setting
- Assign assessments, exercises, and reflections in between sessions
- Support you as you identify and reflect on emotions related to career-decision making
- Help you create and consider new career possibilities, and connect you with related resources
How can Career Counselling Help?
Here are some of the questions that clients raise in sessions:
“I feel lost and I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing at university. Now what?”
“What if I want to do something different from what my parents want me to do?”
“How do I figure out a career path that's right for me and which courses will get me to where I want to go?”
“What should I major in?”
“Do I need to go to graduate school to get a good job?”
“Will I ever find employment with an Arts degree?”
Here are some typical questions that University students are often asked, but may not yet be able to answer:
