Student groups are encouraged to use official university visual brand elements (e.g. colours, logo) when creating promotional materials or other applications. If any such elements are used, they must follow Saint Mary’s University brand standards, and materials/designs must be approved for use by External Affairs.
When developing a logo or mark for a specific student group, however, the official university logo, and its elements (including the corporate typeface Raleway), should not be incorporated into the design. That said, the Saint Mary’s University colour palette may be leveraged.
Exemption Process
All exemption requests must be submitted in writing to External Affairs for review and approval. Requests must include reason for exemption. Submission of an exemption request does not guarantee granting of exemption and all university brand standards must be followed until an exemption is approved.
Specialty Marks
There may be situations from time to time where a special occasion or event requires a special logo, wordmarks and graphic treatment. This would require an exemption proposal and the approval of the Associate Vice-President External Affairs. The duration of the use of the marks must be short-term, or annual in nature, and promote and identify only the particular event, campaign, initiative or anniversary.
Any speciality logo, workmarks and graphic treatment approved for restricted use must be created by External Affairs and will be subject to usage restrictions.
