Saint Mary’s University Faculty Union Scholarship for Academic Excellence Application
Who can apply?
This scholarship is primarily available to full-time undergraduate students in their final or Honours year, however, graduate, part-time, and third year students are welcome to apply.
What is the basis of this scholarship?
Students applying for this scholarship must have successfully completed a minimum of one-year of full-time studies at Saint Mary’s University and must have been enrolled as a full-time student at Saint Mary’s for the 2018-2019 academic year. Preference will be given to applicants who are completing dual degree programs, double majors, and broad or unusual choice of courses. Students should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75.
Applicants must be willing to allow the Faculty Union Scholarship Committee to review their academic transcripts to confirm marks. Financial need and the receipt of other scholarships may be a determining factor in the final selection process. Award decisions are made by the Faculty Union Scholarship Committee. The deadline for this application is May 1, 2019.
Part 1 - Application and Personal Statement letter: Complete your personal information and list your extracurricular activities (on-campus and community involvement). Your personal statement letter must describe your: (1) educational and career goals (2) leadership activities (3) extracurricular activities, including your interests and hobbies (4) Saint Mary’s University community involvement (5) external community involvement and (6) your financial need. Also include anything that makes you special or unique that you have not included on your application form. Please make sure your personal statement letter follows the 6 criteria listed below:
- 750 words maximum
- Font - Calibri or Times New Roman
- 1 page single spaced maximum
- 2 pages double spaced maximum
- If you have financial need, clearly explain specific challenges faced in meeting your needs. This should include changes that have occurred which affected your ability to meet your needs and the steps you are taking to improve your financial situation.
- Please put your first and last name and A# on each page of your personal statement letter
Part 2 - Projected Budget: To be considered for this award you must complete the projected budget form.
Part 3 - Faculty Recommendation Forms: In order to be considered for an award, you must provide valid email addresses for two Saint Mary’s University faculty members. Recommendation forms must be received by May 25, 2019. Remember, to get approval with the individuals who you are asking to be references for you and follow-up with them once you have submitted your application.
