Venture Capital Investment Competition
Date: Friday, March 2, 2018
Hot off their second place win in the VCIC (New England) round, Sobey School and the Venture Grade group are pleased to host the Canadian Venture Capital Investment Competition, an event that flips the typical entrepreneurship pitch competition on its head.
Startups from the community come in to pitch their businesses to groups of students who serve the role of angel investors. The students decide which business they would fund, on what terms, and why.
Industry professionals monitor and judge the students on the quality of their analysis and insight, and the rigour they apply.
In the finals, the venture capital student teams negotiate with the entrepreneurs, á la Dragons Den, to come to an agreement.
The whole thing is an intense day-long adventure that helps students really feel the business process, while engaging venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and other business community professionals.
Six teams from across Canada will compete. Watch the @venturegrade or @sobeyschool_smu Twitter accounts for updates!
