Novanet Express Service

Do you need a book or a journal article from another Novanet library? We can bring in a circulating book or photocopy of a journal article from another Novanet library.

This free service is available to currently-registered students, faculty and staff of Novanet institutions and other patrons with full-system Novanet cards. Please note that copyright conditions do apply.

How to Request a Book

  • Locate the item in Novanet and click on the title to view the full record.
  • Click on the Library Holdings link of the library that has a copy of the book you want delivered.

  • Verify that the item you require is "In Library".
  • Click the link "Place a hold or request a loan" to initiate your book request.

  • The login screen will appear. Enter the barcode number from your identification card and your password (initially the last four digits of your phone number). If you have difficulties logging in, you may need to have your library account updated -- please contact the Circulation Desk 420-5547.

  • The Novanet Express Delivery Request screen shows the information regarding the reqested book (please ensure that you are NOT at the Novanet Hold Request screen -- holds can only be placed if an item is out on loan).
  • Select the Pickup/Deliver to location (defaults to home library -- Saint Mary's University) and click "Go" to send your request. Click "Clear" to change your request, or "Cancel" if you decide to cancel the request.

Acknowledgments, cancellations, and notifications regarding the status of your request will be sent to you via e-mail (provided you gave the Circulation Desk a valid email address when you registered) or by telephone.


How to Request an Article

  • Locate the periodical (e.g., journal) in Novanet and ensure that a library actually has the volume and issue you need. You can do this by checking the Summary Holdings information within the Library Holdings screen of the specific library.

  • Click the "Request a Photocopy" link to initiate your article request.

  • The Novanet Express/Photocopy screen will prompt you for specific information about the article: the volume/issue number, year, pages and the article's author and title.

  • If you would like your photocopy faxed to you, enter the number without dashes or brackets. Fax delivery is available from most libraries (except for Mount Saint Vincent and Cape Breton universities).
  • Select the Pickup/Deliver to location (defaults to home library -- Saint Mary's University) and click "Go" to send your request. Click Clear to change your request, or Cancel if you decide to cancel the request.

Item Delivery and Return

Pick up your Novanet Express items at the Circulation desk. Books will be held for 10 days only.

Return books by their due date at any Novanet library.
