Action Team

Saint Mary's has formed an action team as one of its first steps to fulfilling its commitment to developing a safe and respectful community. 

Our team is lead by Dr. Esther E. Enns. As project champion, Dr. Enns is directing resources to advance initiatives to foster cultural change at the University.

Our team commits to transparency and will provide updates on their activities.

The Team


Dr. Esther Enns Dr. Esther E. Enns is Acting Vice-President, Academic and Research. She is also Senior Advisor, Teaching and Learning, and a professor in Education and Linguistics. She chairs the Faculty of Education Executive. She served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 2002 to June 2014.

Kevin Downie Kevin Downie is the the University’s Acting Athletics and Recreation Director. He is also a Saint Mary’s University alumnus, practicing lawyer and current part-time faculty member. 
Tom Brophy, Senior Director, Student Services Tom Brophy is the Senior Director of Student Services. Brophy came to Saint Mary’s from Brandon University where he was Associate Vice-President, Student Services, Enrolment Management and University Registrar. He led the development of Brandon’s strategic plan for student services and registrarial services, oversaw the Indigenous People’s Centre and guided the development of the Success 1 Transition Year program to improve retention rates for academically at-risk students.

Dr. Margaret McKee Dr. Margaret McKee is an Associate Professor and MBA Program Director in the Department of Management of the Sobey School of Business. She teaches business ethics to Bachelor of Commerce and MBA students. Margaret joined Saint Mary's after a 20 year career as a professional communicator with publicly-traded companies, federal and provincial government departments, and consulting agencies in central and eastern Canada.

Kim Squires Kim Squires has held a variety of positions at Saint Mary's since joining the University in 1989. As Senior Director, Human Resources, her areas of responsibility include conflict resolution (including sexual harassment), payroll and Occupational Health and Safety.
Kazi Rahman, President, Saint Mary’s University Students’ Association Kazi Rahman is President of the Saint Mary’s University Students’ Association and an experienced LEAP Peer Mentor and Residence Service Officer. He was also General Secretary for the Bangladeshi Student Society, SMUBSS.
